Neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) lasers are the most popular choice in treating people with darker or pigmented skin. Typically defined as skin type 3-6 on the Fitzpatrick scale. Most of the below are used to permanently reduce body hair via laser hair removal. The 1064 nm wavelength in Nd:YAG lasers is not as highly absorbed by melanin as other wavelengths. This makes it a safer option for darker skinned people. Nd:YAG lasers can be used in three modes: Q-switched, long pulse, or picosecond.
